Home Wellness Tips

The wellness around our home is an essential component of overall health and well-being. Just like we want to take care of our bodies with nutrition and fitness, many things in our homes can impact how healthy we are inside and outside. From the cleaning products used to the systems operating our homes, everything in our space is an extension of our whole health picture.

This particular blog will be focused on residential spaces but can be applied to commercial and public spaces with some minor changes. The following are five tips on home wellness habits to start today:

1. Check all home systems and make repairs where needed. Hire a professional when the knowledge is beyond your scope.

  • Plumbing
    • Repair leaks and rusted pipes.
  • Ventilation
    • Replace filters where needed and be sure the home is properly ventilated.
  • Climate control (heating/cooling)
    • Replace filters where needed and ensure proper working order.
  • Electrical
    • Switch out burnt-out bulbs, breakers, and outlets.
  • Security/ AV / Smart Home
    • Ensure all are in proper working order.

2. Clean your home with non-toxic cleaning products.

  • White Vinegar, lemon, and water
  • Hydrogen Peroxide
  • Baking Soda
  • Castille Soap or soap nuts
  • Steam

    3. Remove or move around 27 items

    • Throw out expired and unused items.
      • Kitchens and bathrooms are good places to start this process.
    • Donate usable items and material.
      • Set aside items to donate and set a deadline to drop them off. Do not leave them near the door for a prolonged period of time.
    • Move around cherished belongings.
      • Moving items increases the energy flow in your home. It also allows you to clean surfaces before replacing decor and tchotchkes.

    4. Rotate, dust, and water plants

    • Rotate plants at least once a quarter.
    • Dust plants by using a mixture of water and a small amount of Castille soap. Wipe plants’ leaves using a re-usable cloth.
    • Water plants according to care instructions.

    5. Perform a space clearing and offer gratitude to your home

    • Use space clearing techniques (i.e. smudging, sound vibrations, orange peel, etc.)
      • This will remove stagnant energy and make your home feel uplifting.
    • Bring flowers and life into the home.
      • Fresh cut flowers, a new plant, or a fishtank bring life Chi into a home.
    • Offer gratitude through meditation or by speaking it out loud.
      • Tell your home that you are grateful for the comfort and support it provides you in your healthy lifestyle.

The habits we have around our well-being and self-care are directly tied to the state of the space we live in. A home can either support or hinder a healthy lifestyle. By implementing small, manageable habits, our homes can start to feel safer and secure. Our homes can become a functional space to aid in overall wellness routines.
