“There is nothing nicer than a kitchen really made for a cook. Things that are designed to be used always have an innate beauty”

What is the Best Color to Paint a Kitchen?
This question was recently asked of me and I decided to compose a blog to answer. The short answer is, there is no best color to paint a kitchen. It all depends.
It depends on how your time is spent in the kitchen. Are you an avid baker and want people to enjoy the fruits of your labor? Are you a bodybuilder and your kitchen is where you consume calories for gains? Is your kitchen the place of convening to enjoy fabulous meals with loved ones? All of these questions are important to me as a designer prior to even considering the “best” color for your kitchen. As a Feng Shui Practitioner, I have a whole other set of questions.
Back to the question, “What is the best color to paint a kitchen?” — What is the rest of the theme of the kitchen? What colors, textures, and moods are going on in your kitchen? You can see, there are so many more questions I ask before landing on the best color for any room in the home, particularly a kitchen. The kitchen is a very important space to design well.
Kitchen Function
How does your kitchen function for you? It might seem like I am avoiding giving the reader an answer by being Socratic instead, but there is a reason behind all the questions. I ask all my clients questions in order to start programming, or data gathering, for a project. This is critical in kitchen design. Using this data and all the knowledge I have about color theory, trends, and Feng Shui, I can help guide you towards the color best suited for your needs in the kitchen.
Feng Shui Considerations
Feng Shui considerations and questions can get even deeper than the previously posed questions in this blog. The basics of the BTB Feng Shui considerations are all in how the floor plan reads with a Bagua.
Where your kitchen is located on the foundational or main Bagua of your home might also play a major role in color selection for your kitchen. As a Feng Shui Practitioner, I want to know how can the color support the Chi of your kitchen, your home, and yourself.
Favorite Kitchen Paint Colors
All the questions might seem endless (and possibly a bit like an interrogation) but the whole process is important.
The best kitchen paint color is different for every home because it all depends. As a designer, my current favorite paint colors for a kitchen are Golden Earth Tones, Pleasant Warm Whites, and Enchanting Charcoal Blacks. These colors are supportive of the functions of a variety of kitchens as well as the people using the kitchens.

Thoughtful design is important for every room but especially in kitchens. As a designer and Feng Shui Practioner, I want to know how frequently you use your kitchen and what happens when you and maybe family and friends gather in a space that is so central to the home. Color selection is one piece of a massive puzzle.
An intricate understanding of a person and their space goes into everything selected for a design. Color has such an impact that the process might be more involved depending on the people and the kitchen or room. Read more about how I select a color in my blog COLOR & INTERIORS here.
