“There is no such thing as ‘away’. When we throw anything away is must go somewhere.”

The Conscious Consumer
Kara and I connected originally over our mutual passion for conscious consumerism. More specifically, we connected over implementing more zero waste alternative home products into our lives. We developed our friendship further with conversations around metaphysical practices, spirituality, and meditation.
When she approached me for design help on her Zen Den, I was glad to help her. The room needed an energetic shift, so we decided together how best to have a hybrid Feng Shui and styling consultation.
During our Feng Shui Consultation, she had noted wanting to work on her Kun Gua or the relationship area of her home. It just so happened that Kara’s Zen Den fell in this part of the Bagua of her home. The original transcendental Feng Shui cures I suggested for Kara’s relationship area would not work for her particular situation. Instead, we decided to implement color and intention for the Kun Gua.
After our initial meeting, and Feng Shui consultation, my next step was to create a mood board. Since the generally recommended Feng Shui cures for the relationship Gua would not work for Kara’s situation, the color palette was where I turned my focus to adjust Kun in other ways. The mood Kara wanted to set for her Zen Den and her YouTube Channel also came into play. I knew she did not want it to look like every other meditation Channel.
The mood board pictured above was the result of thoughtfully developing a mood for Kara’s Zen Den that best suited her, her space, and her Channel.
BEFORE
After Kara’s overwhelming approval of the mood I presented to her, I set forth selecting furniture for her Zen Den. She requested that I seek out previously owned items since she wanted to continue her conscious consumerism into her space. Seeking out just the right second-hand furniture items was very time-consuming, but ultimately worth it.
Not only is this good practice of recycling furniture, but the items also have a lot of charm and character when they are Pre-Loved.
After I gathered all of the items and materials for Kara’s Zen Den, we set forth in installing everything for her space. (Note to reader: go see a fun time-lapse of the transformation on @much_love_interiors Instagram.)
AFTER
Aside from searching for Pre-Owned or Pre-Loved furniture, I focused on having natural textiles or items that Kara could re-use in her space. The ultimate goal was to give her a space that was beautiful but also functional to her purposes for the room.
The transformation to Kara’s Zen Den turned out better than both of us could have dreamed. We ended the process of transforming her space with meditation and a blessing for the room.
Kara is overjoyed with her new space and I was grateful to help the vision she had come to life.
Much Love Interiors was appreciative of having such a passionately, conscious consumer to work with on a design project. All clients bring unique projects and that was the case for Kara’s Zen Den.
